Six early to mid-career artists based in England are invited to participate in two-week residencies exploring creative responses to climate change through the KRATE transportable pop-up studio.

KRATE is a transportable pop-up artist studio that transforms from a standard packaging crate into a desk, chair, and other flat-packed studio components, complete with a small solar panel. The studio is transported via electric van between residency sites installed in unoccupied public-facing retail spaces across six cities in England. During the residencies, artists are invited to creatively explore climate change and devise innovative, creative solutions in response to the global imperative of transitioning to a carbon-net-zero future.

  • Six residency opportunities available
  • Duration: Two weeks per residency
  • Timing: May–August 2027
  • Includes media coverage and group gallery exhibition at conclusion

Artists need not be based within a specific city but must be close enough to commute daily or able to find their own accommodation. During the second week, artists are invited to devise and offer a free public workshop relating to their practice and work explored during the residency. A press release and media visit shall occur in each city.
