Artists in New Haven and Greater New Haven Area are invited to apply for a 4-month studio residency with a small stipend, mentorship from art professionals, and a solo exhibition.

The Keyhole Workspace Artist-in-Residence Program at the Ely Center of Contemporary Art is a 4-month studio-only residency (no housing provided) for artists living in New Haven and the Greater New Haven Area. Two cohorts are held each year (spring and fall), each consisting of 3 artists. Each artist receives their own studio space and a small monetary stipend toward material costs, and is required to spend 15 hours per week in their studio.

  • Submission deadline: July 31, 2026
  • 4-month residency cohorts (spring and fall each year)
  • Must be living in New Haven, CT and the Greater New Haven Area
  • Open to artists at any stage of career (emerging, mid-career, established)
  • May apply as a team/collaboratively
  • Private studio space for each artist
  • Small monetary stipend toward material costs ($200)
  • Mentorship from art professionals (curators, writers, critics) with casual feedback sessions including meals
  • Solo exhibition in gallery space following residency
  • Public-facing community program required
  • Open Studio opportunity with fellow residents
  • Spend minimum 15 hours per week in studio
  • Host a public-facing community program
  • Attend Open Studio, gallery receptions, and other events
