About
Organizations apply for grants to support Creative Youth Development projects serving youth ages infancy to 25 in California, with priority for system-engaged or at-promise youth.
Overview
The Creative Youth Development program supports arts learning for young people throughout California, including those impacted by the justice system. Projects should occur in arts venues, community centers, schools, juvenile halls, camps, correctional facilities, and other youth-oriented settings. The program emphasizes racial equity, social justice, youth voices, and collective action.
Who Can Apply
Organizations serving youth ages infancy to 25. Projects with additional priority given to system-engaged, system-impacted, and/or at-promise youth, including those dismissed from school, arrested or on probation, incarcerated, undocumented, unhoused, migratory, refugees, with incarcerated parents, or pregnant/young parents.
Project Goals
Projects should address one or more of the following: provide social-emotional creative experiences in safe environments; foster creative abilities through culturally and linguistically responsive arts learning; activate youth voices and narratives; utilize cultural assets of the local community; empower youth through preservation or revitalization of cultural practices; and cultivate transferable life skills.
Eligible Request Amounts
Applicant organizations can request up to $25,000 for the nine-month grant activity period.
Funding Restrictions
Organizations may apply for only one 2024 Arts & Youth Grant Program. For organizations with total operating revenue below $250,000, no funding restrictions apply. For organizations with total revenue above $250,000, requests cannot exceed 50% of the most recently completed fiscal year's total revenue. Matching funds are not required.
