Aviário Studio Intaglio Printmaking Residency 2026

Overview

Aviário Studio Intaglio Printmaking Residency promotes exploration and production in printmaking with a focus on intaglio techniques including drypoint, etching, aquatint, soft-ground etching, soap ground, mezzotint, carborundum, collagraph, and solar plates. The residency provides technical conditions, time, and space to develop ideas, and can focus on experimentation, research, or consolidation of a new body of work. Duration, focus, and outcomes are defined by the participating artist's goals.

Residency length & flexibility

• 2 weeks - 4 months
• Artists define their own duration, focus, and outcomes
• Spouses/partners allowed for full stay (non-collaborators)
• May apply individually or as a team (must each apply and be accepted individually)

Eligibility

• Must be 21 years old or older at time of arrival
• Open to artists based anywhere in the world
• Any stage of career (emerging, mid-career, established)
• Languages: English, Portuguese

Facilities & equipment

Dedicated and shared studios with specialized equipment including Polymetaal Press (260 x 140 cm), Reig Press (100 x 60 cm), UV Light Exposure Unit (150 x 120 cm), glass tables for inking, hot table, light table, paper soaking sinks, acid room, silkscreen studio, and well-ventilated spray room. Full-time and part-time technicians available.

Fees & costs

• 2 weeks: 600 €
• 3 weeks: 900 €
• 4 weeks: 1200 €
• 5 weeks: 1500 €
• 6 weeks: 1800 €
• Studio support (training/assistance): 20€ per hour
• Materials and meals not included; precise quotation provided after application
• Application fee: Free
• No stipend or travel support currently available

Housing & amenities

Private bedroom in a shared housing facility on campus. Residents have access to shared kitchen; no meals are provided. Pets not allowed.
