About
Collage artists are invited to apply for a five-week virtual residency to develop motion-based collage practice, culminating in a 30-second film for potential screening at Kolaj Fest New Orleans.
Overview
The Collage on Screen Artist Residency 2026 is a five-week virtual residency from Kolaj Institute for collage artists who want to develop a practice that includes motion in their artmaking. The program explores collage and the moving image, including animations, film cut-ups, collage film, stop-motion, animated GIFs, documentaries about collage artists, and other media in which collage—as medium or genre—is present. Participants will consider collage on screen as temporal art and explore how moving images and sound can shape story, sequence, and immersive experience.
Program Dates & Structure
The residency runs from 22 August – 27 September 2026 and brings artists together through five virtual meetings, ongoing online discussion, and three one-hour tech clinics.
Eligibility
Designed for collage artists of all skill levels. Those new to the medium should be prepared to develop technical skills such as video editing, sound editing, and digital image editing.
Faculty
Emily Denlinger, Robbie Morgan, and Ric Kasini Kadour
Deliverable
Residents will make a 30 second film that will be considered for Collage on Screen at Kolaj Fest New Orleans, 23-27 June 2027. If selected, the film will be included in Kolaj Institute's traveling screening program. Artists may also choose to make longer works, which will also be considered.
Fees
The cost of the residency is $600 per artist; however, no artist will be turned away for lack of funds and the organizers will work with artists to build a financial aid package.
