Overview
The Art League of Baytown's sixth annual Upcycle Art Challenge promotes environmental awareness by encouraging artists to create work from recycled and salvaged materials. The exhibition runs August 21 - September 24, 2026 at Art League of Baytown, 110 W. Texas Avenue, Baytown, Texas 77520.

Eligibility
Open to residents of Harris, Chambers and Galveston counties. Entries must be created within the last three years. All work must be original in concept, design and execution and may not have been previously entered in the Upcycle Art Challenge.
Categories & requirements
Three categories: Decorative (aesthetic objects with no utilitarian purpose), Functional (aesthetic objects serving a utilitarian purpose), and Wearable Plastic Fashion (wearable items made from plastic products). Each piece must feature 80% material recycled from previous use; glue, screws and fastening devices do not count toward the 80%. One hundred percent of artwork must be created by the artist. Artists must submit a list of recycled materials used and a brief artist's statement explaining the work's message.
Media & size restrictions
All works must be safe to handle, fit through a standard doorway, and weigh less than 40 pounds. For 3-D work: must not exceed 34 by 34 by 72 inches and be easily moved by two people. For 2-D work: must be wired and/or ready to hang (no sawtooth hangers). No live plants or animals, no liquids, and only battery-operated items (no plug-ins). For Wearable Plastic Fashion: artist must supply a mannequin or other display hardware.
Fees & entries
- Entry fee: $35 for first entry, $17.50 for second entry, $17.50 for third entry
- Maximum entries: up to 3 works per artist
- Paying an entry fee does not ensure acceptance; no refunds
Judging criteria
Entries will be judged on: Visual Impact (overall impression and emotional impact), Creativity/Originality (unique vision and approach), Composition/Design (harmonious arrangement, effective use of color and texture), Craftsmanship and Technical Skill (use of materials and attention to detail), and Material Usage (resourcefulness, diversity, and promotion of environmental awareness).
