Applications for a live/work studio residency in Stamford, NY for October 2026 (with possible extension into November) for queer lens-based artists working in photography and moving images.

Arts&Rec invites applications for the inaugural Adrianna Newell Fellowship, a live/work studio residency in Stamford, NY, in the Western Catskills for the month of October 2026 (with possible extension into November). The fellowship is named in honor of board member Adrianna Newell.

Open to queer lens-based artists working in photography and/or moving images from everywhere. Applicants should have an active creative practice in image-making with conceptual depth or research-driven inquiry, and work engaging queer perspectives and relationships to land, rurality, and regional spaces. Consideration given to work focusing on queer identity, memory, intimacy, community, or embodiment.

The residency runs from four weeks to two months, based on project needs and availability.

Use of a 1000sf studio and attached apartment for the duration of the residency, plus a stipend for materials and a per diem totaling $1500. Artists are introduced to local artists and the creative community.

An open studio presentation, artist talk, or public exhibition at the end of the residency to present results to the public is required.

Funding for travel, especially international travel, has not been available. Arts&Rec encourages each invited resident to solicit travel funds from local organizations.
