Apply to participate in a two-week immersive residency exploring choreographic languages of musical theatre through technique, improvisation, and collaborative creation.
Overview
This two-week immersive residency offers individual dancers and emerging choreographers the opportunity to explore and embody the unique choreographic languages of Musical Theatre. Participants will rotate through choreographic labs with each faculty artist, taking part in daily technique and improvisation classes that support embodied exploration.
Program Activities
- Deepen physical and artistic practice through technique and improvisation
- Experience two distinct choreographic voices and creative approaches
- Develop collaborative and adaptive skills in rehearsal and creation settings
- Engage in mentorship, feedback, and self-reflection
- Share work in an informal public showing at the end of the residency
- Participate in public programming and open studio with fellow residents
- Give artist talk or presentation
Eligibility
Open to mid-career musical theatre performers with six or more professional credits, as well as emerging choreographers. Applicants should be motivated to explore choreographic approaches within musical theatre in a focused, collaborative environment.

- Application fee: $65 CAD
- Residency fee: $3,888 CAD (tuition, accommodation, meal plan)
- Banff Centre Arts Scholarship: 100% of tuition + 25% of meal plan and accommodation costs
- Canadian Indigenous Scholarship: 100% of tuition, meal plan, and accommodation costs
- Estimated participant cost after scholarship: $1,841.18 CAD
Facilities & Accommodations
- Private bedroom in shared housing facility on campus
- ADA compliant, partially accessible (50% or more)
- Some meals provided (at least 2 per day)
- Performance/presentation facilities, theater, dance studios (with and without sprung floor), piano studios
