Overview
Kahilu Exhibits seeks proposals from solo artists, artist groups, curators, cultural practitioners, and community organizations for exhibitions in two gallery spaces at Kahilu Theatre in Waimea for 2027. All genres and exhibition types welcome, including painting, drawing, photography, fibers, mixed media, printmaking, sculpture, ceramics, video art, sound art, installation, new media, fashion, jewelry, and traditional crafts.

Submission Requirements
- Artist Statement (1000 characters or shorter)
- Artist CV or Resume
- Artist biography (1000 characters or shorter)
- Detailed Exhibition Proposal
- 10–20 samples of artwork (images, audio, or video as described below)
- Images: 10–20 samples
- Audio: up to 3 files
- Video: up to 5 files
- Total submissions: 10–20 samples minimum
Media & Formats
All media encouraged, including painting, drawing, photography, fibers, mixed media, sculpture, ceramics, video, sound art, installation, new media, fashion, and traditional crafts. Kahilu is not well-equipped to showcase jewelry and very small items but welcomes them; applicants should indicate how they can support the display of such items. Work samples may represent artworks not necessarily included in the proposed exhibition; examples of similar works, studio experiments, and mock-ups are acceptable if new work will be created for the exhibition.

Support & Compensation
Kahilu provides museum-quality support including exhibition design, installation of all artworks, creation of signage and labels, and special display items. Artists receive 60% from all art sales (unless otherwise agreed upon). No stipend or honorarium offered at this time, but Kahilu is pursuing funding. Proposals including paid programming (workshops, classes) are welcomed. Proposals with committed funding are encouraged.
Shipping & Logistics
For applicants outside Hawaiʻi: shipping to Hawaiʻi can be difficult and expensive. Kahilu cannot commit to assisting with shipping costs. Kahilu will coordinate all shipping and delivery of artwork sold during exhibition.
