Submit qualifications for the design, fabrication, and installation of a permanent public artwork for a police substation exterior boundary wall in Surprise, Arizona.

The City of Surprise Arts & Culture Division invites professional artists and artist teams to submit qualifications for the design, fabrication, and installation of a permanent public artwork for the new Police Substation located at the northwest corner of 163rd Avenue and W. San Ysidro Road in Surprise, Arizona.

The selected artwork will be integrated into the facility's highly visible exterior boundary wall and should create a welcoming civic landmark that reflects the values of service, integrity, and justice. Artists are encouraged to incorporate the color blue through materials or lighting and propose durable, low-maintenance artwork appropriate for long-term outdoor installation in the Sonoran Desert climate. Metal artwork with architectural integration is preferred.

A community selection panel will select up to three finalists to advance to a proposal phase.

  • Finalists: $1,500 honorarium plus eligible travel and lodging expenses to develop a conceptual proposal, meet with stakeholders, and participate in interviews
  • Selected artist: Contract of approximately $165,000 for design, engineering, fabrication, transportation, and installation of the completed artwork

Professional artists and artist teams.
