The Mosesian Center for the Arts announces its Artist-in-Residence Program for Winter and Spring 2027, dedicated to uplifting emerging and mid-career artists by providing time and space to create, experiment, and grow. The program is rooted in commitment to equity and access.

Emerging and mid-career artists seeking time and space to create. Local and regional artists across disciplines including visual artists (painting, sculpture, printmaking, photography, mixed media), performing artists (theater, movement, spoken word), musicians with low-decibel instruments (solo acoustic, electronic, or experimental sound), literary artists (writers, poets, playwrights), and interdisciplinary and socially engaged artists.

  • Winter residency: January–March 2027
  • Spring residency: April–June 2027
  • Annual benefit exhibition: May 14–June 25, 2027
  • 24-hour access to studio space (11 ft. × 22 ft., single and double occupancy options)
  • One shared welcome reception with food and drink
  • Shuttle service to and from the Alexandria Campus (limited routes)
  • Access to campus cafe and restaurant
  • $45/hour stipend (min. 1.5 hrs.) for workshops and classes taught by resident artists
  • $1,000 stipend for materials, transportation, or project expenses (Ignite Fellowship only)

Housing, per diem, materials, or stipend to attend the residency are not included.

General Artist Residency: 2–3 artists selected for free studio space and professional development support. No fees; only a refundable key deposit required at start. No stipend currently available. Ignite Artist Fellowship: One emerging artist from global majority or historically marginalized communities selected for free studio space, professional development, and a $1,000 materials/transportation stipend. No fees; only a refundable key deposit required.

Artists are expected to share their work and creative process through at least one public-facing event. Options include Open Studio, Artist Talk or Panel Discussion, Workshop or Demonstration, Exhibition or Performance, or Community Collaboration. Resident Artists receive $45/hour (min. 1.5 hrs.) if they opt to teach a workshop or demonstration.
