Banff Musicians In Residence 2027

Overview

This residency offers space and focused time to individual musicians and bands/ensembles of all genres to research, create, and develop your own projects in Banff Centre's unrivalled campus and mountain environment. You will receive mentorship from well-established faculty, including Luca Fogale, and benefit from interaction and collaboration amongst peers across the three weeks.

What You'll Do

• Research, develop, and create your own project in a safe, collaborative environment
• Have 24-hour access to a personal music studio
• Participate in peer and mentor-led group or one-on-one sessions
• Present new material and performance approaches in public concerts
• Self-record in your own studio to document and disseminate your work
• Collaborate with audio engineers, faculty and participants on recording projects as available
• Participate in optional walk and day trips within Banff National Park and campus-wide activities

Who Should Apply

The program is ideal for individual musicians, ensembles, bands, composers, and music researchers spending focused time on a specific project; creating new works; preparing for concerts, auditions or competitions; or exploring and researching innovative ideas. Musicians at all levels are encouraged to apply.

Eligibility

• Visa Eligibility: Banff Centre programs do not meet eligibility requirements for a Canadian Student Visa. Accepted participants must obtain a Visitor Visa to enter Canada and are responsible for identifying and complying with immigration requirements.

Fees

• Application fee: $65 for individuals or groups; $35 for applicants who identify as Indigenous (non-refundable)
• Residency fee: $8,295 CAD

Scholarships

• Banff Centre Arts Scholarship: covers 100% of tuition and 25% of meal plan and accommodation costs (all arts participants)
• Canadian Indigenous Scholarship: covers 100% of tuition, meal plan and accommodation costs (Canadian Indigenous applicants)
• Complete the Financial Aid section when uploading supporting materials to be considered

Housing & Meals

• Private bedroom in a shared housing facility on campus
• Some meals provided (at least 2 meals)
• Partially accessible facilities (50% or more)
