Writers in all creative genres are invited to apply for a 19-day self-directed residency to work on a creative writing project.

Deep Winter Writers 2027 is a 19-day self-directed residency at Banff Centre for Arts & Creativity offering writers the opportunity to work intensively on a creative project away from everyday constraints. Participants work in a community of artistic peers with access to mentoring, workshops, and optional programming.

Submit application through SlideRoom by July 15, 2026. Complete the Financial Aid section when uploading supporting materials to be considered for scholarships. 19 artists are accepted in most years.

Entry fee
Application fee: $65 CAD for individuals, $35 CAD for applicants who identify as Indigenous (non-refundable). Residency fee: $5,601.75 CAD total for tuition, accommodation, and meal plan before scholarships; $2,630.25 CAD after Banff Centre Arts Scholarship applied.
