About
Artists working on book projects—writers, poets, photographers, paper-artists, graphic novelists, and other book-related disciplines—are invited to apply for a 1–2 month residency to develop their work in Patagonia, Argentina.
Overview
We-Che Art Residency is an artist-run project offering a special residency program for book projects. Located near Trevelin in Patagonia, on 2 hectares with a river, pine and native trees, backing onto a protected natural area and facing pre-Andean mountains, We-Che provides an inspiring workspace for creators working in any book-related discipline.
Who may apply
Open to artists at any stage of career (emerging, mid-career, established) working in book-related disciplines: writers, poets, storytellers, photographers, paper-artists, graphic novelists, illustrators, travel writers, and practitioners of small-format 2D practices (botanical drawings, natural eco prints, collage, watercolor, sketching, etc.). Based anywhere in the world.

Facilities & equipment
The Galpon (Casa de los artistas) serves as communal workspace and living area. Shared bathroom/laundry, kitchen, shared working/living space with high ceiling and window facing mountains, and an Eclectic Library. For hand-crafted art book projects, the residency provides manual tools for folding, paper and cardboard cutting, sewing machine, book-binding press, and paper-art and drawing facilities. Additional equipment includes lighted drawing table, paper storage, tripods and stereoscopic cameras (vintage, analog, digital), A4 flatbed scanner, basic black and white laser printer, easels, benches, vintage sewing machine, and basic woodworking and metalworking tools. Exterior working areas under pine trees and near the river.
Housing
Private housing on campus (individual apartment/cabin/house) or private bedroom in shared housing facility. Pets are not allowed.
Meals & kitchen
Some meals provided (at least 2 meals). Residents have access to shared kitchen.

Financial support
We-Che Art Residency is an independent artist-run project and is currently unable to provide financial support for visiting artists. The residency can provide official documents and letters of invitation for artists applying for grants and scholarships in their home country.

- Any stage of career, Emerging, Mid-career, Established — Disciplines, work equipment and assistance Any book related discipline are welcome, amongst them writers and poets, story-tellers, photographers, paper-artists and small format 2D practices (illustration, botanical drawings, natural eco prints, collage & die-cut, watercolor, sketching), graphic-novelists, travel writers, … willing to achieve a book project. We have a special love for books, and a long experience as graphic designers, artists and author, in editing and making books of any kind, at any diffusion scale. For hand crafted art book projects, we will set up the shared work space for it, with a special focus on hand crafting autonomous possibilities (manual tools for special folding, paper and cardboard cutting tools, sewing machine, book-binding press…) and paper-art and drawing facilities. Studio / Workspace The Galpon&, "Casa de los artistas", is also the comunal space for conviviality. A shared bathroom/laundry with shower, sink and washing machine, a kitchen, a shared working/living space with a high working/dinning table, the Evolutiv Eclectic Library, an high ceilling space with huge window facing the valley and the mountains with a cosy mass-rocket-accumulation stove… Several exterior working tables and working areas under the pine trees or near the river. Our Art Residency is new, and we are constantly expanding our equipment with new tools and technical materials. To optimize space, and depending on the artists' projects, we set up different configurations, as well as various tools and equipment: lighted drawing table, paper storage units, tripods and stereoscopic cameras (vintage, analog, and digital), an A4 flatbed scanner, a basic black and white laser printer, easels, and benches, a basic vintage sewing machine, and basic tools for woodworking and metalworking. Residents have free access to the Eclectic Evolutive library where they can find documentation, and inspiration, and to deposit their previously published book and catalogs (or any book) they would like to share with future residents.
